Partly sponsored by TEVIOS, FlyZolo pilot Zara Rutherford, just 19 years old, started her solo flight on the 18th of August.

During her 5-month journey, she flew over no less than 57 countries and 5 different continents. From Belgium to Russia, via South America and the United States, Zara broke 3 records:

  • She broke American pilot Shaesta Waiz’ record – who flew around the world at the age of thirty (the youngest at the time)
  • She was the first woman to fly around the world in a microlight
  • On a smaller scale, she was also the first Belgian to do so

Thanks to this experience, the young Belgian-British woman not only realised her dream but also succeeded in conveying a strong and inspiring message:

“My aim is to encourage girls and young women to follow their dreams and to promote aviation and STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) related careers for them. Only 5% of professional pilots and 15% of computer scientists are women. In both fields – aviation and STEM – the gender gap is huge. It is in fact a dream gap, because our dreams are shaped from early childhood by the fairy tales and role models we are exposed to. (…). With my flight, I want to show young women that they can be bold, ambitious and achieve their dreams.”

On the 20th of January 2022, she landed at her point of departure and successfully completed her experiment and around-the-world journey.

Following this flight, Zara proved that any dream is possible if you believe in yourself!

The entire TEVIOS team is delighted to have been a part of the adventure.

Congratulations on your achievement, Zara!
